Day 5 (Tuesday15 July 2025) Maastricht

After a really good night's sleep we set off to Maastricht to meet Hanny and Frank.  We met for a hot chocolate at Van Wick next to the St Pieter's Fort. It is the second highest point in the Netherlands and we had a beautiful view over Maastricht as we enjoyed our drinks.

We then had a lovely walk, stopping by the Dassen family tree and looking at the views over a former limestone quarry where there was also a huge network of tunnels which stretched into Belgium and where people hid in WW2.

After a quick photo stop at Andre Rieu's house we then went for lunch which was where Hanny and Frank had had their wedding reception. What a wonderful place. We had another amazing view over the River Maas/Meuse and the food was delicious.

We then moved the car into Maastricht and Frank took us on a very comprehensive tour of the city. Maastricht is such a beautiful and calm city and we enjoyed walking around. Our tour included sussing out the location of Andre Rieu's concert as well as seeing the ancient city walls and a church that had been converted into an exclusive hotel and another which is a bookshop.

Frank and Hanny did us proud and the fact that we did 16,000 steps is an indication of how much we saw.

Marion's cousin had kindly invited us for dinner so, after a quick pitstop at the house, we drove the 10km to Trudy's house for a delicious meal of pasta followed by tiramisu.

We were all ready for bed after a wonderful day.

(Apologies for any duplicated photos. I'm not sure how this came about.)
